One of the largest and most mysterious cave sites in the South Caucasus is the Tsutskhvati cave complex, located in Western Georgia, 15 Km Northeast of Kutaisi, in the valley of the river Shabataghele (N 42 16.249; E 42 51.165; H 290-360 m). The Tsutskhvati karst system is comprised of many MP and UP cave sites. Archaeological excavations at Tsutskhvati were carried out in 1970-1971 and 1974-1975.
